MQAE is a 6-methoxyquinolinium derivative, which is an intracellular Cl^- Fluorescent indicator. The dye can detect ions by diffusion-limited collision quenching. Compared with SPQ, MQAE has higher Cl^- sensitivity and higher fluorescence quantum yield; therefore, it is currently the more widely used of the two indicators.
